If your customer refuses to accept a shipment or if the shipment is undeliverable due to an incorrect address, it will be returned to you. The return process varies depending on the original destination of the shipment. Here’s a breakdown:

Canadian Returns

Canadian returns will be sent to your nearest regional hub, where they will be processed and prepared for return to you based on your preferred return method. For added convenience, you can create return labels for your clients (available for most fully tracked services). If the return label is used, you will only be charged the return label fee.

U.S. returns

Since the United States is an international destination, the returns process is more complex due to border regulations. You have several options when it comes to U.S. returns:

  1. Use your own U.S. address
  2. US disposal service
  3. Have Chit Chats manage your returns

If you choose the first two options, you won’t need to worry about CBSA compliance with Chit Chats. However, if you opt to use your own U.S. address, you will need to arrange for the returns to be sent back to Canada on your own. Additionally, if you choose the U.S. disposal service, all your U.S. returns will be automatically disposed of at no cost.

To have a U.S. return processed by Chit Chats, you must comply with CBSA requirements. This means registering with CARM and obtaining an approved POA (Power of Attorney) before the shipment can be returned to Canada.

All U.S. returns are sent to our warehouse in Niagara Falls, NY. If you do not have CARM registration or an approved POA, your shipments will be held for 15 business days. If you initiate the necessary process within this 15-day window, the shipments will remain on hold until all compliance requirements are met. Once the process is complete, your shipment will be forwarded to your nearest regional hub and returned to you based on your preferred return method.

You only will be able to access return labels in your account for U.S. shipments once you have CARM registration and you have an approved POA. In addition, U.S. returns are charged the return label fee as well as our standard return processing fee. 

Note: Tracked Packet Packet USA returns do not require CARM and POA compliance.

International returns

Chit Chats International does not offer a return service. If a shipment is undeliverable or the recipient wishes to return the package, our partner carrier will dispose of the shipment.
