U.S. Temporary Holiday Shipping Season Increases

The holiday shipping season is just around the corner! As more packages make their way across the border, USPS introduces temporary seasonal price increases to help account for the additional handling and processing that comes with the holiday rush.

From October 4, 2026, at 12 AM CST through January 17, 2027, at 12 AM CST, temporary increases will apply to the following services:

  • Chit Chats U.S. Select
  • Chit Chats U.S. Edge
  • Chit Chats U.S. Connect
  • USPS Priority Mail

What to expect

The increase depends on your shipment’s weight and USPS zone (the distance between the shipment’s induction point and its destination).

For the services listed above, increases range from $0.50 USD for shipments weighing 0–3 lb in zones 1–4, up to $7.50 USD for shipments weighing 26–70 lb in zones 5–9. USPS Priority Mail shipments in this weight and zone range will see instead an increase of up to $9.10 USD.

Not sure what zone your shipment is going to?

You can use the USPS Zone Calculator to find your destination zone. Keep in mind that your shipment’s induction point depends on your shipping region:

  • British Columbia: Seattle, Washington – 98168
  • Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada: Niagara Falls, New York – 14304
  • Alberta: Your induction point will be either Seattle or Niagara Falls, depending on whether your U.S. destination is in the West Coast or East Coast.

Global Fuel Surcharges

As global fuel costs continue to fluctuate due to ongoing geopolitical developments, our shipping partners have introduced temporary fuel surcharges across their networks.

We want to be transparent about what this means for you, and how we’re managing it.

You may notice adjustments to shipping rates in the coming weeks; these changes reflect temporary surcharges implemented by carriers to offset increased fuel and operational costs.

We understand that pricing stability matters and that changes like these can be frustrating. We’re actively working to reduce the impact by optimizing routes, choosing efficient carriers, and absorbing costs where possible to maintain reliable, competitive service.

As fuel costs become less predictable, the logistics industry is shifting toward more dynamic pricing. While this can lead to occasional adjustments, it helps keep shipping networks resilient and responsive. We’ll continue to keep you informed and manage these changes carefully so you can count on consistent service and fair, transparent pricing.

PostNL

Starting Monday, April 6, PostNL will introduce an additional fuel-related surcharge based on shipment weight.

Because this surcharge varies per shipment, a fixed percentage increase cannot be provided. You may notice slight differences in shipping costs depending on the size and weight of individual orders.

  • Chit Chats International Tracked (All destinations)

USPS

Beginning Sunday, April 26, USPS will introduce temporary pricing adjustments to manage transportation costs. This will be an 8% increase on postage. The current end date is January 17, 2027, though this may change.

Services affected:

  • Chit Chats U.S. Select
  • Chit Chats U.S. Edge
  • Chit Chats U.S. Slim
  • USPS Priority Mail
  • USPS First Class Mail

Canada Post

Canada Post has already been applying fuel surcharges independently of recent fuel price increases. These are calculated weekly and fluctuate based on fuel prices. However, you may see higher surcharges than usual as fuel costs rise. For current rates, please refer to their official fuel surcharge page. 

Starting June 3, you will be able to see the fuel charge rate directly in your Chit Chats account for applicable shipments.

Services affected:

  • Chit Chats Canada Tracked
  • Chit Chats Slim

Local Couriers

Starting April 23, additional surcharges are expected to be introduced by our local courier partners. At this time, fuel surcharges will be fluid and fluctuate depending on the national average fuel costs.

Service affected:

  • Chit Chats Select

Canpar

Canpar changes their fuel surcharges on a weekly basis depending on national average gas prices. Similarly to Canada Post, you may see an increase in average due to rising costs. See details here

Carrier rate adjustments occur annually and reflect the rising costs of delivery, particularly in the context of inflation. While these rate changes traditionally take effect in early January, they may also be influenced by shifts and fluctuations within the logistics industry, allowing for adjustments based on the evolving landscape. USPS typically follows a bi-annual rate increase along with holiday surcharges.

Please note that the following represent an overall percentage increase. Individual shipments may experience varying increases, with some increasing by more and others by less. These percentages reflect the overall average increase for the service.

USPS

  • At this time, there are no scheduled pricing changes for services that utilize USPS in 2026. We’ll provide an update if this changes in the future.

PostNL

  • Overall, rates will decrease by approximately 30% when factoring in all destinations and weight tiers starting March 8. However, some destinations will see increases. The most notable is Australia, which will experience an average increase of 30–40%.

      • Chit Chats International Tracked (all destinations)
