What’s the Cheapest Way to Ship Internationally From Canada?

Shipping internationally used to be a daunting task logistically, intimidating to send something thousands of miles away, and very expensive for ecommerce businesses. What’s the cheapest way to ship internationally from Canada? Let’s look at some options.

Shipping overseas can still be quite costly, but with Chit Chats you can save up to 80%, get full tracking and insurance, and in some cases, have your packages received in as few as 4 or 5 business days.

Sign up on Chit Chats now and receive $5 off your first shipment.

So what is the cheapest way to ship your packages from Canada to somewhere outside of North America? This may be something that you’re curious about, so we want to provide some data and information so you can make informed international shipping decisions.

Let’s use an example of a package that’s shipped from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Paris, France, and has the dimensions of 12” by 12” by 12” and a weight of 2 pounds. We won’t look at insurance, tracking, or time it takes to ship, and will focus solely on price to keep things simple.

Canada Post

Canada Post is a common way to ship packages within Canada with thousands of locations across the country. However, they also offer international shipping.

You can ship our example package via their Priority Worldwide pak service for as low as $115.75 (plus tax) which includes the regular price itself of $91.50 and the fuel surcharge that’s $24.25.

FedEx

Another popular and well-established shipping option in Canada is FedEx.

Using their FedEx International Economy service to ship our example package, you’re looking at a cost of $392.53 (excluding tax) which includes a base rate of $323.15, a fuel surcharge of $66.78, and a peak surcharge of $2.60.

UPS

The lowest cost shipping option we were able to receive from UPS for our example package was $258.95 (excluding tax) – you can see the breakdown of the fees in the image below.

Chit Chats

Our presence in Canada continues to grow across the country with a combined 71 branches and drop spots. We also have mail-in and pickup options for businesses that aren’t located in a city with a Chit Chats location.

Using a Chit Chats account, we are presented with two possible shipping options – Asendia International Priority Tracked which has an estimated cost of $24.34 to ship our example package, or it’s $41.28 using USPS First-Class Package International Service.

The image below shows the lower cost option, Asendia International Priority Tracked, and Chit Chats insurance would be $1.49 based on a package value of $100 CAD. With the insurance purchased, the total is $25.83.

Conclusion

We absolutely love saving our ecommerce clients money on shipping so that they can more effectively compete on a global scale and live their dreams!

Chit Chats may not be the cheapest international shipping option in every scenario as there are other alternatives, as well. However, we as a company keep our costs as low as possible and pass the savings onto our clients so they can regularly ship in a cost-effective way.

We advise you to do your own research and see what shipping options are the best fit for you and your business needs. Using websites such as SecureShip can help you quickly aggregate quotes from Canada Post, FedEx, Purolator, and more. We hope this has helped you find the cheapest way for you to ship internationally from Canada.
