Given recent changes to tariffs in the US, many postal providers will be suspending service or changing delivery options to the US. In light of this, Chit Chats will suspend Canada Post Tracked Packet US and Canada Post Expedited Parcel US on Monday, August 25 at 6pm ET/3pm PT.
We will review our ability to support future iterations of Canada Post US services (DDP) once more information has been made available to providers by Canada Post.
Shipping options are changing as carriers adjust, which may result in postal delays or temporary suspensions. Many postal entities are suspending services to the US as they work towards updating their systems to collect duties and put the infrastructure in place.
Those that have experienced previous issues with packages being returned to Canada with no reason provided (particularly with the country of origin China, Hong Kong or Macau), we have been informed that Canada Post is focusing their efforts on finding solutions for shipping to the US and therefore these refunds may take even longer to be processed.
As of August 29th, the only shipping method to the U.S. will be our DDP option, which allows you to pre-pay tariffs, duties, taxes and other import fees when you purchase your shipping labels. This helps you provide your customers pricing that is inclusive of any new fees, creating a transparent experience and eliminating the risk of buyers refusing to pay tariffs after their shipment arrives.
To prepare for DDP shipping, it’s recommended that you start gathering information on your products, specifically:
- Manufacturer business name
- Manufacturer address (including country)
- SKU
- A SKU, or Stock Keeping Unit, is a unique alphanumeric code that businesses use to identify and track their inventory. It’s essentially a product identifier
- Product Description
- HTS 10 Digit Code
We will be updating all clients as soon as the DDP postage options for all countries are available on our platform as there will be a new process which is being finalized and we are aiming for Wednesday, August 27.
To help you navigate these changes, keep an eye on our blog, and join us for our next AMA, on Friday August 21 at 3pm ET/12pm PT.
