Here\u2019s a quick overview of what PPWR and EUDR mean for Chit Chats clients, when they take effect, and what you need to do.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"col-md-6\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"h-banner__image\" src=\"https:\/\/chitchats.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/announcement-banner-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" aria-hidden=\"true\"\/><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The European Union is introducing new regulations that may affect businesses selling and shipping certain products to the EU. Two new regulations to be aware of are the <strong>Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While these regulations may sound complicated, there are no immediate changes to the Chit Chats shipping process or platform. Here\u2019s what you need to know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Starting August 12, 2026, the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) introduced new EU-wide requirements for packaging placed on the EU market. This can include product packaging as well as e-commerce packaging such as boxes, mailers, and other shipping materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does this mean for Chit Chats clients?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For now, PPWR has very little impact on the Chit Chats shipping process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You do not need to attach PPWR documentation to their packages.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You should keep any relevant packaging documentation and information on hand in case they are asked to provide it in the future.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You do not need to make any changes to how they create or ship their Chit Chats shipments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;re a business shipping to the EU, we recommend keeping any applicable packaging information and documentation organized and readily available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Looking for more information? Check out our <a href=\"https:\/\/support.chitchats.com\/en\/support\/solutions\/articles\/47001270033-what-regulations-should-i-be-aware-of-when-shipping-to-the-eu-#:~:text=Representative%20companies.-,Packaging%20and%20Packaging%20Waste%20Regulation%20(PPWR),-The%20EU%E2%80%99s%20Packaging\">support article<\/a> for additional details about the regulation and how it may apply to your business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is designed to help prevent products linked to deforestation and forest degradation from being placed on the EU market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The regulation applies to certain products containing or made from specific regulated industries, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cattle<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cocoa<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coffee<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Palm oil<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rubber<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Soy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wood<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It can also apply to certain products made from these materials, such as chocolate, leather goods, furniture, and paper products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When does EUDR apply?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The effective date depends on the size of your business:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Large and medium-sized businesses: December 30, 2026<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Small businesses: June 30, 2027<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>*To qualify as a small business, a company must meet at least two of the following criteria:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Less than \u20ac10 million in annual turnover<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Less than \u20ac5 million in total balance sheet value<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Fewer than 50 employees<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Most Chit Chats clients that are small businesses will not be affected by the EUDR requirements until June 30, 2027.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Does EUDR apply to my shipment?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first step is to determine whether the product you&#8217;re shipping contains or is made from one of the industries covered by the EUDR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If your product isn&#8217;t made from or doesn&#8217;t contain a regulated commodity, EUDR does not apply to that shipment.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your product is covered, you&#8217;ll eventually need to meet the applicable EUDR due diligence requirements.
