The 10-digit HTS code is required when creating DDP shipments on the Chit Chats&#8217; platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a difference between HS and HTS codes. While they do share the first six digits, they are not interchangeable. If your HTS code is duty free you\u2019ll see that when you buy postage but remember <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/c5ypxnnyg7jo\">country of origin blanket tariffs<\/a> may apply.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NOTE: CUSMA duty-free not eligible with <a href=\"https:\/\/chitchats.com\/blog\/ship-to-the-u-s-with-ease-no-manufacturer-information-needed\">Chit Chats International Tracked to the U.S<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Important to note about CUSMA<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Approval is same day (if there are no issues)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once approved, duty and tariff (if applicable) exemption is automatically calculated on the platform.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Proof of approval is not required to attach with your shipment but good to have. <a href=\"https:\/\/support.chitchats.com\/en\/support\/solutions\/articles\/47001278388-what-is-supporting-documentation-and-do-i-have-to-include-it-in-my-shipments-\">Learn more<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83d\udcda Some Things Are Duty-Free<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are exemptions based on the 10 digit HTS code that qualify an item as duty-free <strong>but <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/c5ypxnnyg7jo\"><strong>country of origin blanket tariffs<\/strong><\/a><strong> may apply.<\/strong> Just because something is duty-free doesn\u2019t mean there aren\u2019t tariffs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional fees:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u27a1\ufe0f Customs Processing is a flat fee (1.35 USD flat fee*) per shipment, covering administrative costs for informal entry into the U.S.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u27a1\ufe0f Broker Line Item is the fee for our broker to process the individual line items in the shipment (0.15 USD \/ line item*). Example: You are shipping 1 tshirt, 2 mugs and 3 pen = 3 shipment items<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>*These fees are subject to change \u2013 we have worked hard to keep these as low as possible as we understand sellers are grappling with having to now also duties on top of postage costs.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary>FAQs &#8211; click to expand<\/summary>\n<p><strong>Postal services do have to collect duties as of Aug 29th, they just have 6 months during which they can charge a flat rate (which is outrageously high). Can you please reference where you saw that they will NOT be collecting any duties for up to a 6-month period?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/07\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-is-protecting-the-united-states-national-security-and-economy-by-suspending-the-de-minimis-exemption-for-commercial-shipments-globally\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">executive order <\/a>published by The White House details that postal services will have the option to either collect duties or charge a duty ranging from $80 to $200 per item depending on the IEEPA tariff rate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Will the $80-200 per package or ad valorem starting Aug 29 apply to all packages even if CUSMA eligible and what about \u201cpostal will enjoy a temporary no duties\u201d period\u201d as CBP gets procedures ready. However there is contradictory information. There is other info saying \u2013 no \u2013 there will actually be<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Given that our postal services are disabled, this would not apply for Chit Chats shipments. This $200 charge is only for postal products from agencies that cannot collect duties to remit to CBP, so this would not affect Chit Chats shipments, as all of our US-Bound shipments would require tariffs and duties to be collected in advance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>So this means that Americans do not pay the tariffs? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When shipping using DDP postage, the seller assumes the cost, but that doesn\u2019t necessarily mean the cost comes out of the seller\u2019s pocket. The tariff fees can be baked into the price of your products when selling, included with your shipping costs, or you can choose to explicitly show estimated tariff fees as a separate line item if your selling platform allows for it.
