Filing Claims And Insurance Timelines

During this uncertain time, protecting your shipments is a great way to provide some peace of mind. Chit Chats Insurance is a low-cost way to cover your shipments for potential loss or damage. Learn about the available insurance options for your shipments when shipping with us.

Chit Chats Insurance

Chit Chats Insurance is available for postage types with full tracking. Our insurance provider, U-PIC outlines specific criteria in their coverage rules. You can easily add insurance to each shipment before you buy postage or update your settings to automatically add to all of your eligible shipments.

Filing claims is easy as you can do so right from your Chit Chats account. Be sure to file any claims within the timelines provided as all claims must be submitted within 90 days of the ship date. 

Claims for damage

  • U.S. – Immediately
  • Canada – Immediately
  • International – Immediately

Claims for loss

  • U.S. – 30 days from the ship date*, 45 days if shipped to APO or FPO addresses
  • Canada – 30 days from the ship date*
  • International – 45 days from the ship date, 60 days if shipped to an address in Italy

*Due to the delays that carriers are experiencing from the pandemic, timelines have been extended. 

Carrier Insurance

If you choose to not add Chit Chats Insurance to your shipments, some of our partner carriers offer default carrier insurance. Shipments must be inducted with the partner carrier to be eligible. This means that there must be tracking event showing physical acceptance into the carrier’s network.

The following postage types offer default carrier insurance:

Canada Tracked

  • Up to $100 CAD coverage available through Canada Post
  • Claims must be submitted through Chit Chats on this form
  • File a claim as soon as ten days but within 30 days of the original ship date

U.S. Tracked (shipments over 1 lb) & USPS Priority Mail

USPS Priority Mail International

  • $100 – $200 USD coverage available through USPS
  • Claims filed directly with USPS on their website
  • Claims should be filed 3 to 90 days after shipment
  • Expect to wait 60 days for insurance resolution as the U.S. Postal Service is giving more time to Foreign Posts to respond to insurance claims
