Quickly Switch Between Return Addresses with Our Newest Feature

Let our new feature for flexible returns selections help you to better manage your returns on a shipment by shipment basis.

We’ve created a new way for you to pick and choose how returns should be handled for each of your U.S. shipments. With our newest update you will have more flexibility in your return preferences whether you want to manage them through our return services, with your own U.S. return address, or mark them for disposal.

Applying Your U.S. Return Preferences Shipment by Shipment

Beginning Monday, August 8, you will be able to toggle between return methods for your undeliverable shipments while creating postage. This new feature gives our clients the ability to customize how returns should be handled for each of your U.S. shipments individually.

Remember, in order for Chit Chats to manage U.S. return shipments on your behalf, we will need to receive your signed and completed returns POA form before we can begin processing them. Learn more about POAs and returns in our Help & Support.

Marking Select Shipments for Disposal

If your business requires the flexibility to receive only select items as returns, you can select which shipments to dispose of in the event they are undeliverable, all while creating them in your account.

  1. In your account settings for Returns, make sure either Chit Chats U.S. Returns Service or Chit Chats U.S. Disposal Service is your default selection
  2. Create your shipment as normal or go to edit a shipment before purchasing the postage
  3. At the Postage step, visit the new section called Undeliverable Shipment and select your preference from the drop down menu
  4. Or, if you import shipments using the Chit Chats API, you can make use of the optional new field, return_dispose_requested. Simply mark “yes” to indicate the shipments where you want returns to be disposed of.

Your selection will only apply to that particular shipment, and not any others that you create moving forward. And if you do not make a selection from the drop down menu, there’s no need to stress! We will use your default settings to process any returns.

Selecting From Your Custom U.S. Return Addresses

If you manage your returns through one or more of your own U.S. return addresses, you can easily toggle between them when creating your shipments as well.

  1. In your account settings for Returns, make sure Use My Own U.S. Return Address is your default selection
    • You’ll need to add all of your custom U.S. return addresses to your settings first in order to toggle between them.
  2. Create your shipment as normal or go to edit a shipment before purchasing the postage
  3. At the Postage step, under Undeliverable Shipment, select your preferred custom U.S. Return address from the drop down menu

Changed your mind? As long as you have yet to purchase the postage, you can edit your shipment and update your preferences. And if you prefer to have all your returns managed in the same way, don’t forget that you can always review the returns settings in your account to adjust your default U.S. return address.
