On December 20, 2019 the UK Members of Parliament voted to pass the withdrawal agreement bill or “Brexit“. What does this mean? The UK agreed to leave the European Union on January 31, 2020.
As a result, there will be a transition period that takes place between February 1 to December 31, 2020 to allow a new free trade agreement to be negotiated. It is also possible that the transition period could be extended by 12 or 24 months should it be required. During this time the UK will continue to follow all of the European Union’s rules and its trading relationships will remain the same. So in short, nothing will change as of now and there will be no immediate impact on e-commerce flows.
It is still unknown what exactly will change as this will be determined during the transition period. We will be following this closely to keep you informed of any possible impacts with shipping to the UK.
